African Heritage Month Launch Hosted by the Town of New Glasgow

February is African Heritage Month, and the Town of New Glasgow is hosting an official launch and flag raising ceremony virtually. The public is invited to join in online Tuesday, February 1st at 11:45 AM, when the town will be livestreaming the official launch on both their Facebook page and our YouTube channel.
This year’s African Heritage Month theme is Through Our Eyes: The Voices of African Nova Scotians. This theme explores and examines the effects of anti-Black racism and the voices of African Nova Scotians who blazed the trail for change.
The ceremony will include the proclamation of African Heritage Month in New Glasgow, the unveiling of the official 2022 African Heritage Month poster, remarks from several distinguished guest speakers, and a musical selection by Angela Cromwell. The ceremony will conclude with the raising of the Pan-African flag on the riverfront, where it will remain for the month of February, reminding us all of the importance of recognizing the history and culture of African Nova Scotian people.
