Pictou County Safe Harbour - Ride for Refuge - Virtual Description:
Pictou County Safe Harbour - Ride for Refuge
Jitney Trail, Pictou
Sat Oct 2, 2021 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
For the second year in a row, Pictou County Safe Harbour is participating in Ride for Refuge, a national fundraiser that supports charities who provide refuge and hope for some of the most vulnerable people on earth. Over the past months, teams of participants have been busy raising money to sponsor one more refugee family to move to Pictou County area in 2022. Over 60 participants are registered for the event, including many of the former refugee families who were sponsored by Safe Harbour in the past four years, making it an inclusive and engaging community-wide effort. Teams of fundraisers include newcomers from other parts of Canada and the world, who chose Pictou County as their new home, as well as members of our local community who are working together to help one more family of refugees to build a new life in Canada, in peace and safety.

This year, just like in 2020, Ride for Refuge will be ‘virtual’, with teams organizing in smaller groups or completing their fundraising activities on their own on the morning of October 2, or at another time of their choosing. The Jitney Trail, in Pictou, will be the meeting point for those wanting to connect with other participants. A table will be set up between 8 am and 1 pm with snacks and water, and volunteers will be collecting donations in cash as well. Participants will also have the opportunity to celebrate together outdoors at Carmichael Park in the afternoon of October 2nd from 4pm to 6pm. All social distancing and COVID-19 protocols will be followed. Participants will have the chance to have a Syrian snack, made by one of the local families, and take a photo with their team. Safe Harbour’s teams are still collecting donations and, if anyone would like to contribute, or join a team, visit rideforrefuge.org/charity/safeharbour
