Description:
Introduction to Building a Rod Puppet, Stellarton Library, 10:30 a.m.-Noon. Puppet Master Asa Nodelman will lead participants in the construction of a jointed rod puppet made from simple materials. Starting with the head, you will learn how to use crumpled paper and tape as sculptural material, building onto a dowel that will become the main control rod of your puppet. Asa will provide information on building restricted joints, focusing on elbow and shoulder joints, before assisting in the making of your puppet's arms. Concluding with statements on using glue and paper to reinforce the puppet, and how to paint sculptural items. Participants will finish the workshop with a working knowledge of the design concerns of puppet construction and a working rudimentary puppet they can elaborate on using tools and materials they have at home.
